General

What is Capelin?

Capelin is a winter sports and streetwear brand for snowboarders, skiers and anyone who lives the culture beyond the slopes. Jackets, pants, midlayers and accessories, cut baggy with a streetwear edge.

The collections stay small on purpose. The same colours run through the whole line, so your jacket, pants and beanie already match. And the prices hold from September to March.

How much does Capelin cost?

A jacket runs from 220 to 230 euros and a pant from 150 to 180. The Axel Bib is 210. Midlayers start at 55, shirts at 35, beanies at 20 and the Riley Belt at 15.

Those prices hold all season, from September through March. No Black Friday, no flash sales. More on our Fair is fair page.

Where is Capelin made?

In China, together with the manufacturing partner this brand was built with. Production expertise on one side, a real passion for the sport on the other. That partnership is why the collections stay accessible and still hold up on the mountain.

There's a subtle nod to that Chinese origin running through the collections too. It's part of who we are, so we'd rather tell you than tuck it away.

Product

How waterproof are the jackets and pants?

The jackets, pants and bibs are rated 20K waterproof and 15K breathable, with taped seams and a 2-layer construction. The Ace hoodie sits at 10K/10K. The Yuki isn't a waterproof shell at all, it's an insulation layer to wear under one.

What are the jackets and pants made of?

A polyester shell with a nylon lining, in a 2-layer construction. The jackets add polyester insulation, the pants and bibs don't.

Elsewhere in the collection: the Jake is 420 gsm cotton terry, the Skylar 280 gsm cotton, the beanies acrylic, and the Riley Belt polyester webbing with a metal buckle.

Which Capelin jacket should I choose?

Seven jackets, and the difference is the fit and how loud you want to be.

  • Ozzy: the busiest colour blocking of the line, cut shorter than the rest.
  • Brooks: three clean colour panels and six front pockets.
  • Rafe: one main colour with contrast panels tucked under the arms.
  • Riley: two oversized front pockets, and the only jacket that comes in purple.
  • Bodie: solid colours and two big front pockets, nothing else going on.
  • Bruce: solid colours, regular fit, cut closer to the body than the rest.
  • Yuki: not a shell. An insulation layer for underneath, good enough to wear on its own in town.

All of them except the Yuki are 20K waterproof, so that isn't the thing to pick on.

Which Capelin pant should I choose?

Three pants and a bib, and the difference is how much room you want.

  • Axel: regular fit, and the pant the rest is measured against.
  • Jax: the same design as the Axel, a slack looser.
  • Parker: the widest we make, with an elastic waist.
  • Axel Bib: the Axel as a bib, so no snow gets in between your jacket and your pants. Men's and women's cut.

All four are 20K waterproof. Every pant except the bibs comes with a Riley Belt, and you pick the colour.

Is Capelin good for beginners?

Yes. It's inspired by the core crowd but built for everyday riders, which is most of us. The fits are forgiving, 20K waterproofing is more than a normal week on the mountain will ask of it, and nothing about it assumes you've been riding for ten years.

Does Capelin use recycled materials?

Not at the moment. The shells are polyester, the linings nylon, the sweats and tees cotton and the beanies acrylic, and none of it is recycled. We also don't hold any sustainability certifications.

We'd rather say that plainly than put a label on something that hasn't earned it. If it changes, you'll read it here.

Sizing

How do I find the right size?

Every product page has its own size guide with measurements, plus the sizes our models are wearing in the photos. Between two sizes we'd size down, since most of our fits already run relaxed. Still not sure? Reach out and we'll help you pick.

What sizes does Capelin come in?

Jackets, pants and bibs run from XXS to XL, with one exception: the women's Axel Bib stops at L. Midlayers and shirts run from XS to XL. Beanies and the Riley Belt are one size.

Every model has its own size guide with the measurements of that exact piece, because a Bruce doesn't fit like an Ozzy.

Do Capelin jackets run big?

Most of the line is cut baggy, so take your usual size and you get the room that's meant to be there. Two things worth knowing: the Bruce is cut closer to the body and runs narrower in the chest at every size, and the Ozzy falls shorter than the rest.

The size guide of each model has a size finder that works off your height and weight.

Does Capelin use European or US sizing?

Neither, and that's on purpose. Sizes are labelled XXS to XL, and rather than ask you to guess which system that maps to, we publish the actual measurements of every model in centimetres.

Measure something you already like the fit of, hold it against the size guide, and you'll know.
